    Local Area

Wild and rugged round Hartland Point, then stretching out into wide, surf-washed sandy bays – explore one of the world’s loveliest coastlines when you stay at a lodge in North Devon.

Surfers and sailors flock to Woolacombe, Saunton, Croyde and Ilfracombe, and windsurfing, water skiing, canoeing and diving are all popular on this coast too, while walkers are attracted to the spectacular views along the coastal path.

It’s also a working coast, and fishermen still bring their catches into harbours at Bideford and the enchanting villages of Appledore and Clovelly, whose whitewashed cottages seem to tumble down steep cobbled lanes to ancient quaysides. And when planning a holiday in North Devon, don’t miss a chance to take a boat trip to Lundy Island, a beautiful haven for wildlife.

You’ll find great days out within easy reach of our lodges. North Devon offers a great array of family attractions – life-size animated dinosaurs lurk in subtropical vegetation at Combe Martin’s Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, the Milky Way Adventure offers thrills of a more adrenaline boosting kind, and sheep races and duck trials feature in the fun at the Big Sheep.

The lodges are new this year and we were only the second people to use our lodge. The peace and tranquillity was second to none and the lake was well stocked with carp to fish whenever you liked. The site manager was very friendly/helpful and was only a phone call away if we needed anything. The standard of the lodge was excellent (in fact we have not stayed in better accommodation of a similar nature ever before!) A thoroughly enjoyable holiday and a place that we want to return to again in the near future.

Orchard Lakes Lodges is rural and geared towards peace and tranquility. The lodges themselves are fabulous and contain everything that you need, you are even provided with a 'welcome pack' containing bread, milk, butter, biscuits, sugar, tea and coffee etc, which is a lovely thought! Even your towels are provided for the whole family - this is something I have never known to be provided before on a self catering holiday!! The fishing is great too! You can fish outside your lodge if you wish, or anywhere else around the lake - we had many 'catches' during our stay. We took our two dogs with us and they thoroughly enjoyed the spacious orchard that they had to run around in. You are surrounded by gorgeous scenery of orchards, lush green fields and cows grazing. I would strongly recommend this park to other people, whether you want a relaxing holiday with absolute peace and quiet, a fishing holiday, or if you need to take your pets with you - it ideally caters for all. We had a wonderful time!

The lodges at Winkleigh must be in one of the most peaceful locations imaginable, and it is just a superb place to recharge your batteries, whether or not you are an angler who can take advantage of a well-stocked lake that you can fish from your bedroom window! The orchards add to the sense of getting away from it all, and although it takes time to drive anywhere, the countryside is beautiful. Our lodge was very comfortable and well-appointed throughout.

If you want a quiet peaceful holiday this is definitely the place to stay. The accommodation was truly first class. We received a lovely welcome and were provided with a welcome pack of provisions which was much appreciated. It was a real treat to have a large TV and comfortable beds. Fishing right from the lodge is fabulous and it is a great place for dogs as there is plenty of land for exercise on the site.

For peace and tranquillity you can't beat it. The lodge itself you cannot fault, we all enjoyed our stay and it was great for the dog.

Just returned from a short break at Orchard Lodges, a superb and tranquil setting set amidst a large apple orchard with splendid views of the village of Winkleigh. A place of peace and quiet, the lodge was well equipped, beds very comfortable, and my husband made full use of the lake catching some wonderful carp. Our dog enjoyed roaming the orchard and the manager was very friendly and made us more than welcome.

A lovely location, peaceful and quiet. The owner was very welcoming and helpful and the lake is very well stocked (I caught some really good sized fish). The lodge we stayed in was very luxuriously furnished, with plenty of room - there were four in my party but it takes six comfortably, I cannot fault it. Overall I had a great time and would highly recommend a stay here to anyone!
