| Sometimes referred to as the "Pearl of Kent", the lively town of Whitstable dates back to before the Domesday Book and is home to a buzzing local museum and art gallery - hosting around six new exhibitions each year and boasting a wonderful coffee shop. Whitstable Castle dates back to the 1790s and hosts numerous events including a big May Day celebration with contributions from local musicians and artists. The town is also home to a small, independent brewery as well as a wide selection of nationally recognisable chains and local independent stores. The city of Canterbury - with its 6th Century cathedral - is just seven miles away whilst it is possible from nearby Herne Bay to see as far as Southend and the Isle of Sheppey. |
