Weston-super-Mare is an old fashioned sea side town and is an ideal spot for a family holiday by the sea. The wide sweep of Weston Bay has miles of clean sandy beach, traditional seaside attractions and beautiful countryside and coastline to explore. Weston beach has a designated area for kite buggies, small land yachts and kite boards, while jet skiers, power boat users and other boats can launch from Knightstone slipway. Away from the beach, undercover attractions include the SeaQuarium, the North Somerset Museum and the worlds largest dedicated Helicopter Museum. There is a wide variety of entertainment on at the Playhouse Theatre and the Winter Gardens to suit all ages, and an excellent selection of restaurants, cafes, and bars.
A varied programme of events goes on throughout the year. Highlights include Helidays, a 3 day helicopter spectacular on the Beach Lawns, and the national water ski-ing championships in July. All through the summer the amazing Sand Sculpture Festival takes place on the beach with incredible sculptures carved out of Weston sand. In October the exhilarating Weston Beach Race sees hundreds of motorbike riders racing over sand jumps for a test of bravery and endurance. In November the Illuminated Carnival features over 100 spectacular floats parading through the night time streets.
To the south of Weston-Super-Mare is the seaside town of Burnham on-Sea and the Somerset levels are close by. This beautiful rural area is famous for its cider farms, cheddar cheese and family friendly pubs. The area is dotted with world-famous landmarks like Glastonbury Tor and Abbey, Cheddar Gorge and show caves, the beautiful Roman City of Bath, Wells Cathedral and Dunster Castle....the list is endless.
For the sporting enthusiast there are two fantastic golf courses nearby: Worlebury (less than a mile away) and Weston Super-Mare (a classic links course), whilst Celtic Manor (host of the 2010 Ryder Cup) is only 40 minutes drive away. North Somerset is also a mecca for fishing whether it is sea, coarse or game and the owner, a keen fisherman and golfer is always on hand to offer advice and tales of the one that got away!
