Johan's Cottage is a quintessential Highland cottage situated in an idyllic location with garden grounds leading directly down to the sea. Built of local Torridon stone and named after its original owner it has been in the same family for many generations. The current owner has recently upgraded and refurbished this lovely cottage and it now provides modern, bright and attractive accommodation in a lovely setting. Perched on the edge of Loch Kishorn in the small hamlet of Achintraid Johan's cottage enjoys spectacular views of the Applecross Mountains with an ever changing seascape in the foreground. The garden grounds extend down to the water's edge and seals and even the occasional otter can be seen close by. There are mussel beds in the bay and when the tide is out visitors can walk across the sand to gather fresh mussels for dinner. There is also an excellent seafood restaurant in the nearby village of Kishorn. The surrounding area is a haven for bird life and in recent times a pair of sea eagles has been spotted in the region. This beautiful area of Wester Ross is renowned for its stunning mountain scenery, unspoilt coastline, friendly villages and wealth of outdoor activities. A visit to the nearby Applecross Peninsula is a must. For the more adventurous it can be approached via the Bealach nam Bo (the pass of the cattle), an old dove road which is the highest pass road in Britain. With dramatic hair pin bends it is not for the faint hearted! The alternative coastal route offers an equally inspiring but less daunting trip through the pretty fishing hamlets as it winds its way gently to the top. The views from the top of the Applecross hills, the Cuillins of Skye and Loch Torridon are simply awe-inspiring. There is a lovely old inn, together with a cafe and restaurant in the charming village and the walled gardens of Applecross house are also open to the public. There is a wealth of activities available in the area, including climbing, walking, cycling, sailing, fishing and kayaking.
