| Failte is a superb conversion of two former fishermens cottages, which have been combined to form a beautiful and spacious house situated right on the edge of the sea. The property enjoys wonderful panoramic views of the sweeping coastline, with a traditional Scottish golf links beyond. It adjoins the beautiful sandy beach of Brora. Continually owned by generations of MacRae fishermen since the 1820s, the current owner (a direct descendent) has carried out a stunning refurbishment whilst integrating the adjoining cottage. The main living area is on the upper floor, taking full advantage of the magnificent views. The four large windows overlook the mouth of the River Brora, beach and North Sea with stunning uninterrupted views over 20 miles northwards to Berriedale Head. Exposed beams and a feature fireplace of Caithness flagstone and original decorative local sandstone add to its distinctive charm and ambience. A generous dining room and attractive sun lounge on the ground floor overlooking the estuary, golf course and beach ensure there is ample of living space. Five bedrooms, two bathrooms and a downstairs cloakroom make this spacious property ideal for a two-family or extended family holiday. There is a fully enclosed private garden to the rear and at the front of the house a parking area, further gardens both grassed and paved (ideal for barbeques), together with a summerhouse for visitors use. The shoreline is just yards away and the views are further enriched by the local population of seals and numerous seabirds that frequent these shores. There is a major seal colony here and new pups can be seen during the summer months. Brora village has a timeless quality that visitors find hard to resist. The small shops, cafes and restaurants are within easy walking distance and there is a wide range of activities to choose from and places to visit. Locally there is the 18 hole (James Braid designed) traditional links golf course, tennis court, fishing (sea, loch and river), mountain biking, sailing, canoeing, bird-watching, seal-spotting, hill-walking, scenic coastal and inland walks, safe sandy beaches, and even a local distillery open to the public. Brora is also ideally located for exploring the whole of the stunning county of Sutherland and beyond. Visit Dunrobin Castle, with its gardens modelled on Versailles. Encounter salmon leaping up the Falls of Shin. Experience gold panning at Helmsdale, the site of a 19th century gold rush and explore the wild beauty of this totally unspoilt region of Highland Scotland.Property has electric central heating and a large wood burning stove. |
