| Grahamsfield Cottage is a charming Victorian property set on a small working farm in the picturesque Dumfries & Galloway region of Scotland. The cottage enjoys beautiful views across open countryside and over the Solway Firth to the Cumbrian Fells beyond and is a veritable paradise for children with access to a fully enclosed garden equipped with trampoline, swing and slide, and ample of room for other play activities. The village of Ecclefechan, famous for its mouth watering Ecclefechan Tarts, is birthplace of Thomas Carlyle, the famous essayist, satirist and historian and only a mile away. Grahamsfield Cottage is set within the southern uplands where remote lochs glitter amongst the gentle hills of Annandale and Eskdale. This area has remained virtually unchanged for centuries and is the perfect holiday destination for those seeking rest and relaxation. For those of you seeking more activity the area provides access to some outstanding and beautiful walking; often through miles of unspoilt and peaceful countryside. The Galloway Hills to the west of the cottage offers various bridleways and footpaths for those who enjoy a pleasant stroll or perhaps a more challenging route. Southern Scotland is also well known for its excellent range of mountain bike trails including the internationally acclaimed 7Stanes venues. The area boasts several accredited mountain bike venues including those at Ae Forest and Mabie Forest. For golfing enthusiasts there is a championship golf course at Southerness. Those who prefer a tranquil experience by the loch with fishing rod in hand can visit Lochmaben, which has coarse fishing available on all three of its lochs. Those who enjoy exploring can visit some of the many fortresses and castles in the area. For example, the 16th century watchtower of Hoddom castle and the 15th century Torthorwald Castle are both nearby. The lovely conservation town of Moffat with its 'double' high street and the lovely town of Dumfries, known throughout the region as the 'Queen of the South' and the place where the great Robbie Burns spent the last few years of his life, along with the Old Blacksmiths Shop at Gretna, renowned for its romantic connection (and excellent shopping outlet!) are all easily accessible. Dalton Pottery and Art Cafe, close to Lockerbie, is a great day out for the entire family with its delicious home cooked food and the chance for visitors to create their own unique piece of ceramic pottery to take home with them - a wonderful way to create a lasting memory of a stay at Grahamsfield Cottage.Property is all at ground floor level, has oil central heating. |

| Skipmyre Cottage is a single storey, semi detached cottage tucked away in the trees but with lovely views of the surrounding hills. Despite its secluded location it is surprisingly close to the bustling market town of Dumfries and its many facilities. This is a rural retreat in the true sense of the word where common visitors are likely to be red squirrels or roe deer. It is the ideal property for lovers of the great outdoors. For in addition to the property being located amid some wonderful walking country, two of the highly acclaimed 7Stanes mountain biking centres at Ae Forest and Mabie Forest are close by. The name Ae can be found in the Guinness Book of Records as the smallest place name in Britain! The forests are also ideal for walkers with ample of way marked routes - perfect for a long hike in the fresh air with the dog at one's heels. The region is also renowned for the quality of its fishing. Coarse fishing is available on all three lochs near Lochmaben and Loch Ettrick at Ae is also recommended as a great place to fish. Perhaps one of the most outstanding features of this lovely region is the quality of its coastline, which is simply stunning in places with a truly elemental ambience. The glorious Solway Coast for example, is not to be missed with its maze of sandy and rocky bays, smuggler's caves and amazing cliff top walks. The views across the Solway to the Cumbrian fells are unforgettable, particularly on a winter's day when the fells are covered in snow. Another feature is the relatively untouched and un spoilt feel to the area. Adding to its charm is the fact that one can walk for miles and seldom see another human being. A surprise to many is that Dumfries and Galloway is pretty temperate thanks to the moderating effects of the Gulf Stream. It boasts the mildest climate in Scotland, with the average winter temperature similar to that of Cornwall! Testament to this is number of wonderful gardens, where visitors will be delighted to find an abundance of subtropical plants thriving in the Scottish countryside! As well as being a scenic area it is also rich in wildlife. There is always things to see and the lucky few may even catch a glimpse of a golden eagle.Property is all on ground floor level, has oil central heating. |
