For more challenging terrain, the nearby Cambrian Mountains or the spectacular Brecon Beacons are just a short drive away. Also in the region and boasting a variety of shops, museums, craft centres, pubs, tea-rooms and restaurants are the towns of Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader and Builth Wells. Rhayader is also home to a fantastic Red Kite feeding station, offering magnificent opportunities to see these beautiful birds at close range. The Phil Price Rally School is also close by, but for those intent on peace and quiet the Elan Valley Lakes make a stunning place to spend a sunny day.

Byrdir Cottage is a detached cottage, created from two separate properties in a peaceful location in open countryside just over four miles from Rhayader near to Llandrindod Wells in Powys. Boasting five bedrooms consisting of two doubles, two singles and one twin as well as a family bathroom, this cottage can sleep eight people. There is also a fitted kitchen with a dining area, a sitting room with a woodburning stove and a games room with a pool table, table tennis, darts and an additional woodburner. Rhayader is a small Welsh town with a selection of tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and shops, with the added bonus of a leisure centre and regular livestock marts. The annual Royal Welsh Show is just one of the attractions in nearby Builth Wells, where a great variety of exhibitions and sales are held all year round. The beautiful Elan Valley offers a wonderful variety of walks and cycle trails, as well as a visitor centre with café and children's play area.

Hiraeth is a Welsh stone and oak framed, detached barn conversion set in 65 acres of land located close to the hamlet of Dolau, just eight miles from Llandrindod Wells in Mid Wales. The cottage has two double bedrooms and one family room (sleeps four) as well as a sofa bed in the lounge, which make it suitable for up to ten people. The cottage also contains a family bathroom, a ground floor shower room, a fitted kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with a woodburning stove and the sofa bed. To the outside of the cottage is off road parking for five cars and a gravelled seating area with garden furniture and a BBQ. Set in beautiful, rural surroundings, Hiraeth is a wonderful holiday cottage in a stunning part of the country.
Dolau is a small hamlet in Powys with a little railway station near the town of Llandrindod Wells in Mid Wales which offers a variety of shops and pubs, plus many hiking pathways in and around the town. Others attractions nearby are the National Cycling Museum, the Radnorshire Museum and nearby Abey Cwm Hir, resting place of Llywelyn, the last Welsh King (1282).

Bicycle hire is also possible from the town, should visitors like to try their hand at cycling the local countryside routes. Bird watchers will enjoy the wonderful feeding station for Red Kites, allowing these rare birds to be observed quite closely. Pony trekking through the area is also available and the Elan Valley Lakes offer numerous activities for a great day out.
