The pedestrianised village of Hawkshead is surely one of the most picturesque villages in the north of England, its cobbled streets home to several traditional inns, tea rooms and interesting shops, 'your pub' and 'your other pub' serving a host of specialist beers and good bar meals. Excellent level walks can be enjoyed from the door along to Esthwaite Water and to Near Sawrey, Hilltop being home to Beatrix Potter and Far Sawrey from where you can board the passenger/car ferry in order to sample the tourist hot spots of Bowness and Windermere.

The cottage is surrounded by 'the real outdoors', with sheep grazing in the adjacent fields, which draw your eye out over the dotted landscape to the fabulous, uninterrupted vies of Esthwaite Water. Footpaths from the door lead along a woodland path through quiet countryside to nearby Hawkshead, with its host of specialist shops and a good selection of places to eat and drink.
Shepherd's Cottage is furnished in a homely, traditional style, with coordinating fabrics and lovely personal touches. The owners provide a 'Welcome Tray' for their guests, to include a pint of milk for that important cuppa upon arrival, particularly refreshing after a long journey.
