There is so much to do here that you will want to follow our good advice and 'Haste ye back'. The Old Brewery Brae Store is a lovely listed building dating back to the 18th century. Gatehouse of Fleet is a pretty wee toon and Brewery Brae Store is centrally located off the high street allowing easy access to the many facilities on offer. Why do people keep coming back to the area Gatehouse of Fleet is set in the midst of a national scenic area close to a magnificent coastline and surrounded by hills and forests. Couple that with a mild south west climate and at least a dozen sandy beaches close by and you will never want to leave! There are castles galore from the magnificent Drumlanrig to the romantic Threave Castle where you have to ring a bell for the custodian to row you across the water! The River Fleet offers some fine fishing for sea trout and salmon and for those who prefer to purchase their fish there is an abundance of choice. For a really good selection of local food from this land of milk and honey a visit to the renowned food town, Castle Douglas is highly recommended. The Cream of Galloway offers the most delicious organic ice cream in so many mouth watering flavours. The ice cream parlour leads through to a brilliant adventure playground built for all to play. There are also nature trails, a dog walk and cycle tracks and all set in stunning surroundings. An event not to be missed is the Gatehouse Gala which is held annually in the last week of July. Starting on Sunday with the Grand Opening and Crowning of the Gala Queen, a week follows crammed with fun and activities including a mini Tattoo followed by a fabulous Torchlight Procession (over 1000 torches) culminating in Gala Saturday with the Grand Parade and an afternoon of fun and entertainment. For mountain biking fans there is a choice of the world renowned 7 Stanes sites where some serious mountain biking is to be experienced. Walkers have the challenging Galloway Hills devoid of people but shared with buzzards and deer. 'Haste ye back'.Property has gas central heating.

Experience a week in May's Cottage and you will return time and time again. This 200 year old cottage affords tantalising glimpses of the wonderful hills beyond, beckoning the holiday maker to pull on walking boots and pack a picnic! The location is perfect, quietly situated yet within easy (level) walking distance of the 'wee toon' with its many facilities. Gatehouse of Fleet is a little gem, offering a wide range of places to eat and relax and nestled beautifully within a national scenic area with many beaches and castles to explore. It is located on Route 7 of the National Cycle Route, providing an ideal opportunity for a family day out in the fresh air. The Galloway Hills provide seriously challenging walking and are surprisingly devoid of people. The area is also excellent for both mountain biking and fishing. The Cream of Galloway is an exciting day out for everyone with the added bonus of over 30 flavours of the most delicious ice cream to choose from. Within very easy driving are the many interesting little towns scattered around this lovely area. The charming little fishing town of Kirkcudbright for example, with its historic High Street and strong artistic connections, officially designated as the 'Artist Town'. The 'Food Town' of Castle Douglas is well worth a shopping trip, as is a visit to Threave Castle where visitors are invited to ring a bell for the custodian to row them across! The annual Gatehouse Gala with its Tourchlight Procession is quite a spectacle and one not to be missed. The Cally Palace is highly recommended for afternoon tea as well as a superb evening meal and the approach to the hotel is via the lovely Cally Woods where it is usually possible to catch a glimpse of a deer or red squirrel. For lovers of Bluebells, the ancient woodland at Castramont has a most beautiful carpet of flowers that will simply take your breath away. Gatehouse of Fleet has a wide range of places to eat out offering a varied cuisine.
