| Ideally positioned amongst the rolling Angus countryside, Courtyard Cottage is a beautiful traditional stone built cottage which has recently been renovated to a high standard. The kitchen is the heart of this house with high ceilings, and roof windows which flood the room with light. Courtyard Cottage is just a short drive from Forfar, which offers a good selection of shops and restaurants. Be sure and make a trip to Arbroath to sample the famous Arbroath Smokie, a wood-smoked haddock, which is produced in a small family smokehouse and is a real delicacy. The area boasts some fine beaches, including Montrose beach which is a blue flag beach, 50 miles of unspoilt Angus coastline and dramatic red sandstone cliffs. Lunan Bay, recently voted as one of the best beaches in Scotland is well worth a visit. The Montrose basin nature reserve is just 18 miles away. Ideally positioned on the edge of a tidal estuary, the basin attracts over 50,000 migratory birds each year. You can watch the busy life of these birds from the comfort of the visitor centre, which has a panoramic view of the basin. Neighbouring Edzell and Kirriemuir are the gateway to the magnificent Angus glens, the foothills of the mighty Cairngorm Mountains, a haven for wildlife and a peaceful refuge from modern life. The glens and surrounding countryside offer numerous walks for all abilities, including 14 of Scotlands munros - mountains over 3,000ft. Other activities to try are horse riding, fishing, sea kayaking, cycling or even a round of golf at Carnoustie, which has hosted the Open on numerous occasions. This area is renowned for its large number of golf courses, many at championship level. Glamis Castle, childhood home of the Queen Mother and setting for Shakespeares Macbeth, is only 6 miles away, here you can take a trip back through over 600 years of history or enjoy the beauty of the gardens and grounds.The accommodation is all on ground floor level has oil central heating. |
