| Nestled within the heart of the friendly conservation village of Colmonell, Rowantree Cottage sits at the end of a terrace and offers a charming holiday retreat for couples. The open fire in the lounge ensures a cosy welcome awaits guests whatever the season, and the pretty bedroom features a lovely king-sized wooden, crafted bed with views across the valley and along the main street to the distant Galloway Forest. Colmonell lies snuggled within one of the most beautiful and unspoilt valleys in South West Scotland where there is salmon and trout fishing available on the River Stinchar. The stunning landscape surrounding the village is dominated by Knockdolian Hill, quite a challenge for a brisk walk or climb but often the perfect opportunity to glimpse a wild roe deer or spot birds of prey - or just to enjoy the breathtaking views across the Firth of Clyde. Nearby is Culzean Castle and Country Park, situated on a cliff top close to Maybole and is often described as the "Jewel in the Crown" for the National Trust of Scotland. Kelburn, Dean and Brodick are just some of the many other well-preserved castles well worth a visit. Colmonell is also a perfect destination for golfing enthusiasts; the prestigious, championship courses at Turnberry and Troon are a little further up the coast or relax with a stroll along the beach at Ballantrae, only 3 miles away. Ferry crossings to Belfast depart regularly from Stranraer 22 miles south and to the Isle of Arran from Ardrossan a little further north. There are several shops, pubs and restaurants in Girvan, 12 miles away and Ayr, where ten pin bowling, sailing and horse racing are only a sample of the amenities, is 34 miles north making Rowantree Cottage an excellent base to explore this varied and picturesque part of Souther Scotland. The property has electric storage heaters. |
