| This delightful, one bedroom, semi-detached, traditional stone built cottage, nestles in the small, quiet village of Clachan. Stables Cottage was indeed once a stable and it has been cleverly converted into unique holiday accommodation. The cosy, open plan lounge/kitchen area has all you require and the French doors lead out to a patio area and then down into a shared garden. When relaxing on the patio the sound of the river can be heard as it flows by and there is a lovely view to the hills beyond. The open wooden staircase leads up to the bedroom, which has a large, feature circular window, offering a fantastic view out onto the hills. A short 20 minute walk from the village leads down to a lovely sandy beach and there are several good walks close by. The local hotel is within walking distance and has a bar/restaurant. The local service station also has a well stocked shop with post office facilities. Lochgilphead and Tarbert to the North or Campbeltown to the South, offer all the additional facilities you may require including supermarket, shopping, swimming pool and numerous eateries. Clachan makes a great base to explore the Kintyre peninsula and islands. Close proximity to the sea provides lots of opportunities for coastal walks, boat trips, otter spotting, bird watching, sea angling and permits can be obtained to fish in the lochs or rivers. To the South of Clachan, at Tayinloan (8 miles), the ferry leaves for Gigha which is home to the famous Achamore House & Gardens, The island is ideal for gentle cycling. To the North, at Kennacraig (5 miles), the ferry departs for Islay, famous for its whisky distilleries. Then to the East, at Claonaig, the ferry travels to Arran. The Kintyre peninsula is steeped in history and locally at Clachan, there are ancient monuments - standing stones, a burial ground and an iron age fort. Also the famous Kilmartin Glen is only about 30 minutes drive away. The area is great for golfing as Machrihanish has two 18 hole golf courses, which are part of the "Great Scottish Links Collection". The first hole on one course requires the opening shot to carry over the Atlantic! For walking enthusiasts the Kintyre Way provides a great long distance walk (87 miles) from Tarbert in the north, to Danaverty Bay in the south. Kintyre really has the feel of and island without leaving the mainland.Property has electric heating. |
