| The Paddock is situated at the end of a quiet lane that leads down through open fields to the sweeping sands of Brora bay. Built by the current owners on their own farmland it offers bright, modern and spacious accommodation in a lovely tranquil setting. Situated in the charming small crofting community of Dalchalm, it enjoys spectacular sea views with the Sutherland hills beyond. All the rooms are of generous proportions and furnished to a high standard. The well equipped kitchen leads out through patio doors to an attractive terraced area with large garden grounds; ideal for families. The beautiful lounge with feature fireplace is warm and welcoming and has lovely views across the open fields to the sea. The bedrooms are all superbly presented and drink in the amazing seascapes from the large picture windows. For golfer's this house is a dream come true, situated just a stone's throw from the renowned Scottish links course at Brora, designed by James Braid, famed for Carnoustie and Gleneagles golf courses. The championship golf course at Royal Dornoch is also just a short drive away. This area of Highlands is noted for its spectacular beaches and unspoilt countryside. There is a lovely walk to the sea direct from the property to a stunning sandy beach. There is ample to see and do in the area. Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Dukes of Sutherland, is situated a few miles further south. With its spectacular gardens modelled on Versailles and its location on the edge of the sea, it is well worth a visit. A day trip to the Orkney Isles is also a must as is the fairytale Castle of Mey, the former home of the Queen Mother and the most northerly castle on the British Isles. The town of Broroa provides an excellent selection of local amenities, including restaurants, pubs, a bowling and tennis club as well as a hotel. There is a local distillery that offers guided tours throughout the season. The surrounding area is renowned for its rich bird and sea life. Puffins, Great Skua, otters, seals, dolphins and whales are all seen in and around the coast. For the energetic the region is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Surfing, body boarding, kite buggying, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and fishing are all enjoyed locally. There is also a wealth of other sporting activities, including horse riding, cycling, hill and forest walking. The Paddock is easily accessible for exploring the whole of the Highland region and provides a perfect base from which to return. Local amenities include hill walking, golf, river and sea fishing and birdwatching with Dunrobin Castle and Carn Liath (an Iron Age Broch) a few minutes drive from the property. Within easy reach are the Falls of Shin with forest walks and visitor centre with the Highland Capital of Inverness is just over an hour’s drive and the West Coast is only 2 hours away. |
