Sanday is one of the archipelago of islands that make up the enchanting Orkney isles. Here you will find long stretches of pristine white sandy beaches leading down to clear, aquamarine seas. Renowned for its abundance of birds, seals and other wildlife, glittering crystal waters and spectacular open skies, Sanday has been called the 'Jewel of the Isles' and is the perfect place to take time out. Greystone is a traditional detached single storey cottage that has been tastefully renovated and furnished to provide bright, attractive accommodation in a tranquil, unspoilt setting. Set in its own large garden grounds, surrounded by open farmland with views across to the sea from all angles, it offers an ideal opportunity to enjoy a totally unique island holiday experience. Just 12 miles across and no more than 6 miles wide you are never far from stunning coastline. From Greystone the sea is visible in two directions, and just 3/4 mile walk away. The nearby Bea Loch offers excellent trout fishing and small boats can be launched from the jetty. The island, being essentially flat, is a cyclist's paradise, with very quiet roads and no steep hills - the owner has thoughtfully provided bikes for visitors' use. As you explore the island you'll receive friendly waves from the local people and the same warm welcome also awaits you in the pubs and restaurants. The Orkney Isles are renowned for their bird life and Sanday is no exception. Rare breeding birds, migrants and a wide variety of sea birds make it a bird watcher's paradise. There are a surprising amount of activities for a small island. Fishing (both sea and loch), canoeing and kayaking, ceilidhs in the pubs, caving and guided walks with the island's resident Ranger all add to Sanday's distinctive charm. Explore 5,000 years of history, from ancient Viking tombs to relics of both world wars. In the Spring and Summer the islands abounds with wild flowers and during these months the sun hardly sets and views across the wide horizons alter with the changing light.Accommodation is all at ground floor level, has electric panel heaters.
