Arden Cottage in the heart of Galloway is the perfect getaway to explore this undiscovered but accessible corner of Scotland. Twynholm is well located for exploring the area which really does have something to suit every taste whatever age. The village was home to Formula One Driver David Coulthard and the eponymous museum is a great testament to his success from trophies and race suits to the actual cars David raced. Whilst you are there call in to the Pitstop Diner! The Cocoa Bean Company is just down the road producing hand crafted chocolates. They offer workshops to adults and children where you can immerse yourself in sheer chocolate heaven! The area is becoming popular with mountain bikers as we host the 7Stanes which offers seriously challenging and world renowned biking at various stunning venues across the region. For those who like less challenging cycling we have mile after mile of quiet sleepy roads edged by colourful hedgerows. Everywhere you look you will see evidence of our temperate climate, from exotic gardens displaying plants from the South Seas, to flourishing palm trees. Dumfries and Galloway is home to a myriad of amazing birds that make the Solway their home after their flights from the frozen north and the RSPB site at Mersehead is one of the best sites to watch them. For golfers there is a choice of around 30 courses across the country from Championship courses to beautiful courses by the sea. Carse Cottage is located in the sleepy little backwater of Glengap yet easily accessible to everything that this beautiful land has to offer. Dating back to around 1870. the property represents superb and stylish accommodation finished to a high standard. Beautifully nestled on a former drover's road, this lovely cottage has glorious views of the surrounding countryside, Wigtown Bay and toward the distant Cumbrian Fells. The pretty little fishing town of Kirkcudbright is well worth a visit with its colourful high street and busy working harbour. The town has an excellent assortment of local shops from individual boutiques to craft shops and as a sea port it is a great place to pick up local seafood and a bottle of wine. From there head to any one of a number of local beaches for a delicious barbecue. Kirkcudbright is known as the Artists Town which is obvious when you see the landscape and amazing light conditions which has inspired artists down the centuries. The local village of Twynholm is home to The David Coulthard Museum and Pit Stop Diner and boasts items from champagne bottles popped by David on various podiums around the world to the actual cars and karts raced by David during his career. The walking here is second to none with a great range of choice from the remote and challenging Galloway Hills to local strolls taking in the amazing scenery. There are a number of venues locally offering the 7Stanes mountain biking experience; not for the faint hearted! Gatehouse of Fleet is a lovely wee toon offering an assortment of hotels, a few shops, a great place for afternoon tea and you can even order a kilt, although measurements should be taken after you have sampled the delights of the Cream of Galloway! Gelston village is a quiet backwater, the ideal place to relax amidst the green pastures and woodlands of rural Galloway. The area is beloved of birdwatchers and walkers, golfers and fishermen and there are a number of fine sandy beaches within a short drive. Boat hire, sailing, windsurfing and watersports available on Loch Ken. Nearby Threave Gardens are well worth a visit and bikes can be hired to explore the country lanes. Shops, pub/hotels in Castle Douglas (2.5 miles). On a very quiet country road, this lovely whitewashed cottage offers spacious accommodation for a large family party or group of friends. A charming feature is the shallow mill stream and waterfall descending to the Gelston Burn behind the property - this is a favourite with children although the area immediately around the house is gated for toddlers. Garden furniture and barbecue are provided for the private patio area with ornamental pool and visitors are welcome to use the owners welltended garden (the owners live in a smaller property behind the cottage). The cottage dates back to 1706 and has been extended over the years. It is attractively decorated with traditional, very comfortable 'country cottage' furnishings, lovely finishing touches and a very welcoming atmosphere. Rowan Cottage was built in 1843 as a 'wee free' church, a branch of the Church of Scotland famously strict in its religious practices. The beautiful, old beams throughout the property are testament to its history and a lovely character feature. "Out of the world and into Borgue" is a local saying aptly describing this pretty little village, which is surrounded by beautiful beaches, green and pastoral landscape and amazing little towns each with their own fascinating history. The name Borgue is derived from the Gaelic word 'Burg' meaning 'little hill'.
