Making maximum use of natural light, the cottage has a spacious feel yet is homely, cosy and slightly quirky. There is a very private rear garden with patio area, garden furniture and a barbecue to enjoy the peaceful, tranquil surroundings. Parking opposite the cottage. Wanlockhead nestles within the Lowther Hills and is Scotland's highest village at 1531 feet above sea level. The fascinating lead-mining museum is across from the cottage and is a 4 star visitor attraction with a coffee shop. The village also has a pub/restaurant. The surrounding countryside is spectacular for walking and the Southern Upland Way passes nearby. Numerous recreational activities in the area include golf, fishing, pony trekking, cycling and even gold-panning! Easy day excursions can be enjoyed to Dumfries and Moffat or to Glasgow or Edinburgh (both an hour's drive). Nearest shop 1 mile with further shopping in Thornhill.1 lovely bright double bedroom with king-size bed, very comfortable lounge with open fire, excellent kitchen with dining area off, shower-room with double unit. In an idyllic peaceful location, with wonderful unspoilt views over the countryside, this pretty semi-detached cottage enjoys a degree of remoteness, some three miles from the main road but is still within easy reach of nearby Thornhill, Closeburn, and a little further afield, Dumfries. This is a horse rider's paradise with stables adjacent and stabling available at an extra charge if you want to bring your own horse. The quaint property is bright, airy and very homely and is the ideal base for a sporting break or just a relaxing week in front of an open fire. Drumlanrig Castle is a short drive away, and houses a famous art collection, including works by Rembrandt and Leonardo as well as offering a great family day out with an adventure playground and 7 STANES mountain bike trails at AE forest (2 miles). Bikes can be hired at Drumlanrig and tuition is available. There is loch fishing just 1 mile from the cottage and salmon fishing in the Nith. Falconry lessons and Vintage Car Hire can be organised at a nearby hotel, only a couple of miles away. Hillwalkers make the most of the Southern Upland Way and golfers alike are well catered for.
